- For immediate release -

A budding five-year-old artist has become the youngest ever designer for Tesco and looks set to raise a staggering £20,000 for a charity close to his heart by putting pen to paper to create a brand new Tesco Gift Card design.  Bradley Addison from Birmingham, who has muscular dystrophy, has sketched a summer playground design that will be sold in Tesco stores across the UK to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Bradley has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a devastating, incurable and life-limiting condition that causes muscles to waste away, making him get progressively weaker and preventing him from performing simple tasks that we take for granted, such as turning the pages of a book or brushing his hair.

Bradley's wonderful design was selected by the charity as the new design for a unique charity Gift Card that has just gone on sale in over 600 Tesco stores. For every £10 Gift Card sold, the  Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, Tesco Charity of the Year 2009, receives 50p. This promotion is expected to raise £20,000 for the charity's Giving children equipment to be independent appeal.

Through a combination of staff fundraising, product promotions and customer collections, this fundraising partnership aims to raise £3 million to provide vital specialist equipment, such as mobile arm supports, electric page turners and powered wheelchairs, for children like Bradley who are affected by muscle disease.

The Gift Cards, available in store from the end of June 2009 until the end of February 2010, can be spent at any Tesco store in the UK and on tesco.com sites including 'Direct' and Music downloads.

Sarah Thompson, mother of five-year-old Bradley, said:

"Bradley loves drawing and it's brilliant that his design will be used by Tesco. It's amazing to see the Gift Cards on sale in our local store - I'll be telling everyone I know to buy them and support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign!"

Announcing the donation, John Dove from Tesco Gift Cards said:

"Buying Bradley's fantastically designed Gift Card is the perfect way for customers to treat their loved ones and raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign as Tesco Charity of the Year 2009. Not only will they be donating to a wonderful cause, but they'll be purchasing a product from surely the youngest designer in supermarket history!"
