The Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and the people who sit on the Board are the charity's Trustees.

"Trustees set the strategic direction for the charity"

The Board of Trustees' job is to set the strategic direction of the charity and to ensure that we meet all of the regulations and rules that govern charities in the UK.

The Board of Trustees was officially created in 1966. It is currently made up of 16 Trustees, who were re-elected at the charity's Extraordinary General Meeting held on 24th October 2007.

Committees

There are four committees that sit beneath the Board of Trustees. They are chaired by a member of The Board of Trustees.

Medical Research Committee

The Medical Research Committee meets once a year. It is responsible for recommending research strategies, the charity's research grant programmes for both clinical and medical research, and for monitoring the research we fund.

Clinical Research & Care Services Committee

This committee meets twice a year. It is responsible for recommending care strategies and grants and for monitoring the charity's care services.

Finance & General Purpose Committee and Investment Committee

The Finance and General Purpose Committee is responsible for financial monitoring, property and legal issues. It is also responsible for the charity's investments, and reviewing the investment strategy as well as pensions. The committee consists of the Chair (Honorary Treasurer) and five other people.

Appointments Committee

The Appointments Committee is responsible for identifying and recommending candidates for the Board of Trustees

Other committees and councils

There are two Country Councils:
  • Northern Ireland
  • Scotland

They are responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the charity's work in their respective countries.

The Neuromuscular Centre Advisory & Consultative Group monitors the performance of the Centre and includes one Board of Trustees member.

The Joseph Patrick Trust Management Committee monitors the performance of the Trust and reviews its overall strategy.

The Joseph Patrick Trust grants panel awards equipment grants within its set budget.
