The Scotland and Northern Ireland region employs two Regional Fundraising Managers - Margaret Tooth, who is based in Stirlingshire, and Glenn Oakes, who is based in Belfast.
What role does the Regional Fundraising Manager have?
Regional Fundraising Managers take responsibility for a particular area. We work with trustees, branch representatives, colleagues at head office, local businesses and volunteers to maximise fundraising in our region to help in the fight against muscle disease. How do you maximise fundraising?
We:- set up and establish regular fundraising events
- develop good working relationships with local businesses
- sell merchandise and raffle tickets
What are your day to day tasks?
My days are varied but a lot of tasks are centred on fundraising, for example I:- organise events
- support others who organise events on our behalf
- secure corporate donations and sponsorship
- apply to grant-giving trusts
- encourage people to give through payroll giving
- support branches
I also encourage people to become members of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
What do you most like about your job?
Glenn Oakes said: "I enjoy the variety of the job and the tangible results. For example, it's a real thrill to open the post in the morning and receive a juicy cheque. I also relish playing my part in something big - the charity continues to improve treatments and I totally convinced that someday muscle disease will be something 'of the past'."I am proud to play my part and represent Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man in creating a brighter future."
