Fundraising in the West Midlands and North Wales

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's mission is improve the quality of life for people with muscle disease. We lead the search for treatments and cures, and strive to provide the best care and information possible.

To do so we rely on the generosity and kindness of people who take the time and effort to fundraise. And those who dig deep into their pockets to sponsor or donate.

"A big thank you for your efforts"

So, a big thanks to everyone in the West Midlands and North Wales who helps to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Best foot forward

More than 70 people took part in the first Great Malvern Walk on Sunday, 11 July. The group went up to the Worcestershire Beacon – the highest point on the Malverns – and then steadily downhill, past the Herefordshire Beacon to Castlemorton Common.

Thanks to all the walkers, including some teams from Somerfield Stores, and to the Malvern Rotary Club members for their help at the Check Points. Also we are grateful to the Malvern Hills Conservators for their help and advice.

As the event was such a success another walk will be arranged for next year. The provisional date at the moment is 5 July 2005.

Somerfield Divisional Executive, Roy Thorogood, diving with sharks © Somerfield Thanks to the heroic bravery of six Somerfield managers, our funds have been handsomely boosted by more than £6,000.

To raise this magnificent sum, the Fearless Six came face to face with a tankfull of sharks at the Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire in June. Huge thanks are due to their families, colleagues and customers who helped them raise this jaw-dropping total – and above all, of course, to the Fearless Six for daring to brave shark-infested waters.

To add icing on the cake, six Kwik Save managers from North Wales have also agreed to dive for us, and will be doing so on Thursday 28th October. So we’re looking forward to that event too and, if you fancy a similar adventure for yourself….well, further places will be available next year!

It's a Knockout

Teams competing in the It's a Knockout event © Charles Horton A wonderfully silly day of games and frolics took place on Sunday 18 July at Rugby Recreation Ground. The event was great fun and helped to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign - we will let you know the grand total when all the sponsorship money has been counted.

Thanks to all the teams who took part!
