Hoisting for children & adults with muscular dystrophy & related conditions
Hoisting means using equipment to transfer (lift) someone from one surface to another, eg from bed to shower chair, or from wheelchair to the toilet, without a carer having to physically lift. A hoist can make things much easier, and should offer dignity, comfort, and safety. Hoisting is a straightforward procedure, but a number of issues must be considered, to ensure that the correct hoist (and sling) are selected.
