Buying and selling second-hand disability equipment

Specialist disability equipment can be costly, and people often ask where they might be able to buy, sell (or even give away) items. This page gives some suggestions, but obviously the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign cannot recommend any one in particular.

Do be aware that when you purchase an item second hand, it is highly unlikely to come with any sort of guarantee or warranty, so you are buying it at your own risk. There is not normally a formal asssesment carried out when buying second hand items - Occupational Therapists rarely get involved. You will need to ensure that you only buy something that is suitable for your disability, and your needs.

Sometimes manufacturers will offer "trade in" prices, or will buy back items such as powered wheelchairs or stair lifts. They generally only offer low payments.  It is very rare for anyone to buy back or to resite through-floor lifts.
