Family Weekends
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is keen to extend the support and practical help it provides to families affected by muscle disease. To achieve this we plan to deliver a UK wide series of Family Weekends, which offer the opportunity for families to meet people like themselves in a relaxed atmosphere and specifically adapted environment.
"This is the first event we have attended and have found it both enjoyable and informative. "
Family Weekends will provide the advice and support to enable people to make a long term impact on their quality of life, including the following key areas:
- Self-Management - A lack of mainstream information provision means that people living with muscle disease are often unaware of the benefits and services that can greatly improve their quality of life. Educating people about self-management will help them to access things like grants for specialist mobility equipment, as well as informing them of everyday self-management techniques that may offset symptoms such as pain and stiffness.
- Transition - Due to increasing life expectancy, the transition period between childhood and adulthood is a new concern for those affected by muscle disease. That is why the charity aims to increase its support for adolescents, who are going through the often difficult transition from children’s to adult’s services.
All four Family Weekends will combine socialising events with the provision and exchange of information in a relaxed environment.
