How we can help (applying for a grant)

The Joseph Patrick Trust provides part-funding towards the cost of equipment that is directly related to the need of the individual. Applications will only be accepted from, or on behalf of people with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions. Please contact us for clarification on other neuromuscular conditions we cover or alternatively you can download the Medical conditions covered by the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign (183 kb) [doc]  or view a list on our website here

Applying for a grant - what you can apply for
The panel will consider applications for funding the following types of equipment;

  1. Wheelchairs
  2. Electric beds
  3. Vehicle adaptations
  4. Riser chairs
  5. Adapted computers
  6. Mobile arm supports
  7. Therapy equipment ( standing frames, exercise bikes etc)
  8. Trikes and scooters

The JPT Tariff

The Joseph Patrick Trust is prepared to look at new and innovative products that meet specific needs.The Trust will only consider applications which meet the criteria detailed in the Joseph Patrick Trust Grant Guidelines (120 kb) [doc]

The Joseph Patrick Trust will not fund:

  1. Grants outside the United Kingdom
  2. Holidays, household adaptations or building works, domestic appliances
  3. Equipment which has already been purchased
  4. Recurring costs - Wheelchair repairs, insurance, batteries, tyres etc
  5. Purchase or lease of vehicles; vehicle deposits; maintenance or repair of vehicles

How to apply
Grants are agreed at a grants panel meeting. Meetings are held four times a year from April to March. Please view Meeting Dates for dates of forthcoming panel meetings.

Help and guidance on filling in the application form and the required level of background information and supporting material is available from the JPT team.

Every application should be supported by a quote for the equipment and an assessment carried out by a qualified professional, confirming that the piece of equipment you have requested is suitable for your needs. Applications not supported by these documents will be returned.
