Statement of Special Educational Needs
The Local Education Authority makes an assessment of your child's needs. If they find that your child needs more special help than that already provided under the School Action or School Action Plus programs, it must write a Statement of Special Educational Needs, which is usually called a 'statement'. It describes the child's needs and all the special help he or she requires. The school can usually provide this help with the LEA's support. The statement is reviewed annually, and you will be invited to take part in review meetings.Ask for a "statement" at your child's school or through your Local Education Authority. Disabled Students' Allowance
Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs) provide help for students who, because of their disability, have additional costs.DSAs are paid in addition to the existing standard support for students and are available to full-and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students. Part-time students must be studying at least 50 per cent of a full-time course.
DSAs pay for the extra costs you have to pay in attending your course which are incurred because of a disability. The type and level of DSAs support is identified by means of an assessment of course-related needs, carried out by an experienced assessor.
