Waste Not Want Not

Did you know that in the UK alone over 2 million printer cartridges are disposed of in landfill sites and 15 million unwanted mobiles are similarly discarded?

Every cartridge thrown away could help provide vital information for a family affected by muscle disease and every mobile left in a draw could fund one hour of pioneering research into treatements and cures for muscle disease.

"Over 15 million unwanted mobiles just thrown away"

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign runs a free, easy-to-use scheme that reduces this waste and raises money to help the thousands of children and adults affected by muscle wasting diseases. It is also an excellent way for your company to show that you care about the community and the environment.

In partnership with Reclaim-IT, we can collect printer cartridges and old mobile phones completely free of charge from anywhere throughout the UK including work, home, and school. In other words – we do all of the work while all you need to do is donate the cartridges.

How could your donation help?

  • One toner - could help provide vital information to a newly diagnosed family
  • Eight toners - could help provide a much needed physiotherapy session for a child with muscular dystrophy
  • One mobile phone could fund another hour of pioneering research into treatments and cures
  • 20 toners - could help a Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Care Advisor give someone the practical and emotional support they need immediately after a diagnosis

How does the scheme work?

There are three simple ways in which we can collect your empty printer cartridges and mobile phones:

1. If you have any old mobile phones at home or use an inkjet printer then we can send you some free-post envelopes to return directly to Reclaim-it on our behalf. Simply seal the old mobile phone(s) or empty inkjet cartridges in the envelope and pop it in the post. This is free of charge and Reclaim-it will donate a percentage of the value of each item to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

2. If you work in a small office or shop perhaps you could take one of our free-post envelope display boxes so that friends, colleagues or visitors could pick up an envelope and also help us by recycling their old mobile phones and empty inkjet cartridges.

3. If you work in a larger office that uses more printer cartridges, Reclaim-it can locate a collection box directly in your workplace. The collection box acts as a focus for recycling and once full all you need to do is call Reclaim-it who will arrange collection and replacement of the full box.
