Donate Shares

About ShareGift

ShareGift, the share donation charity, is an independent registered charity that was set up to make it easy for you to give shares to benefit UK charities. It specialises in accepting small holdings of shares, particularly those which are not worth selling. It also helps people with larger gifts of shares. ShareGift works with companies, stockbrokers, charities and other organisations across the UK.

When you donate shares they will be pooled with other donated shares until there are enough to sell. ShareGift’s trustees then give the proceeds to charities. Using the form on this website will ensure that the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign continues to benefit.

Information for UK taxpayers

If you are a UK taxpayer, you can claim income tax relief on the value of most stocks and securities when you donate them to charity. In addition, donating shares to charity gives rise to neither a gain nor a loss for Capital Gains Tax (CGT) purposes.

E.g. if you are a higher rate taxpayer, for every £100 worth of shares you donate to charity, your income tax bill could be reduced by £40.
