Stowe School's weekend fundraiser
Charles Reynolds, son of The Q Trust chairman, Mark Reynolds, has inspired his fellow pupils to join him in raising money for The Q Trust.
Charles, who is in the sixth form at Stowe School, Buckinghamshire, and his friends organised a charity weekend in aid of muscular dystrophy.
The first event was a "Battle of the Bands" competition, which was held on the Saturday night. It proved very popular with both students and staff, as some hidden musical talents were revealed. The fitting overall winners were Pigs Will Fly, a band made up of some of the charity committee and fronted by Charles Reynolds.
A sponsored walk on Sunday saw the vast majority of Stoics, along with many parents and siblings, don their walking boots for either the six or 15 mile trek across ploughed fields and along narrow footpaths. One hardened band of sixth formers completed the 15 mile trek in just over two hours, although they did opt to run the distance. The tailenders covered the long trek in a respectable nine hours. Everyone made it home safely in the end, despite a few wrong turns along the way. The sun shone on the participants and it was wonderful to have nearly the entire school tramping along for charity. Thank you to all parents and friends who took part - it was a thoroughly successful day.
A great deal of money has already come in from sponsorship, the clear highlights being James Minchin-Mitchell, who raised £11,500, and Charles Reynolds, who topped £7,000. The combined amount raised by both the Battle of the Bands competition and the sponsored walk has now topped £30,000, which is fantastic.
The local rugby club, Zurich Premiership team Wasps, caught wind of Stowe’s fundraising efforts and invited the fundraising committee to a match at The Causeway Stadium on 5 November. The boys met the team during half-time, and as keen rugby players it was a well-deserved thank you for the time and effort they have devoted to fundraising for The Q Trust.
