Quentin Crewe set out on his epic survey of the Michelin three-star restaurants of provincial France in 1977. The resulting book ‘The Great Chefs of France’ met with much critical acclaim and made an important contribution to the renaissance in British cooking. Superbly photographed by Anthony Blake it is unrivalled as a study of France’s heroic chefs at the height of their powers.

"The event raised £82,000"

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its publication, ‘The Great Chefs of France’ gourmet dinner was held in February 2004 at The Savoy and attended by 450 guests.

Reproducing the recipes were some of today’s best known and most celebrated chefs including Raymond Blanc, Paul Gayler, Albert Roux, Brian Turner and John Williams.

In addition, auctioneer Guy Jennings from Sotheby’s conducted the auction, which featured free meals at many top restaurants in the UK and France, with accommodation included too.
The evening was a great success and raised a fantastic £82,000.
