Young Pavement Artists Competition 2007
Do you know a group of young people aged 4-19 years that would have fun creating pavement art?
Every year thousands of children compete to become young pavement artist of the year in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Launched in 1986, the competition captures young people’s enthusiasm for art using a novel canvas – the pavement. It is open to all young people aged 4 to 19 years. Children’s BBC art presenter, Mark Speight, is the competition’s patron and last year over 22,000 children took part across the UK!
Local events encourage young people to meet, draw, unlock their imagination, and - most of all - have fun! The Young Pavement Artists Competition raises money to support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign’s work to improve the lives of people living with muscle disease.

The theme
This year's challenge was to capture in chalk the animals and wilderness of the Arctic and Antarctic.
How it works
Youth groups and schools organise their own event where children draw on a pavement slab or sheet of paper on the ground. The pictures are photographed and winners are selected according to age group. The cost for entry into the competition is £1 per child, with the proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
The winners from each school or group’s event can then be put forward to the national competition. Judging will take place during the summer with the awards event taking place in the autumn. The winning pictures will be displayed at a public exhibition.
