Chairperson - South West London committee

Why we need you:  

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is seeking an individual to take on the exciting role of leading a new fundraising committee in the South West London area. By leading a Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Committee you will be helping to raise awareness and funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's work to provide care and support, research and campaigning for better services for those who are living with muscle disease.

What might I be doing?

  • Leading the committee to raise as much money as possible for The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign
  • Acting as the main contact for the group and liaising regularly with the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Volunteer Fundraising Manager
  • Co-ordinating the group’s fundraising and awareness activities in the local area
  • Helping to recruit and attract new members to the group
  • Chairing group meetings
  • Representing the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and the group in your community
  • Encouraging and supporting other members of the group in their activities
  • Keeping up to date with the latest news and activities from the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and helping to support and promote other Muscular Dystrophy Campaign events in the area

What skills and attributes do I need to have?

  • Enthusiasm and ambition for the work of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign
  • Effective communication skills – the confidence to chair meetings, delegate tasks to group members and influence people in your community
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to take a business- like approach to ensure you are maximising the efforts of everyone involved in your committee or group
  • IT skills would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of the local area would be an advantage

How much time do I need to commit?

As a volunteer you would be responsible for managing the hours that you wish to give to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.  However, this role requires that adequate time is given regularly to support the committee and Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.  This can be discussed further with your local Muscular Dystrophy Campaign contact.

What support will I be given?

  • An induction and training on all aspects of this role
  • All appropriate materials, including branded stationery will be supplied by Muscular Dystrophy Campaign
  • A dedicated Volunteer Fundraising Manager will be available to give you continuous support, advice and guidance 
  • Other group members will be available for help, support and advice
  • Contact with other chairpersons for advice
