Events Coordinator - West Midlands
Why we need you:
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign leads the fight against muscle disease. We provide free care and support for babies, children and adults affected by muscle disease, fund world-class research to find treatments and cures, provide grants towards equipment and campaign to raise awareness and bring about change.
As an Events Coordinator you will support the Volunteer Fundraising Manager in recruiting participants for the Bupa Great Birmingham Run on the 23rd October 2011.
Formley known as the Birmingham's half marathon, the event now has a new name, the Bupa Great Birmingham Run and has become part of the Great Run, the world’s biggest mass participation running programme.
The run attracts 15,000 participants each year, and is to be televised terrestrially with an international highlights programme also planned.
We therefore want to recruit new supporters as well as encourage our existing supporters to take part in this fantastic event and raise much needed funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
.What will I be doing?
· Marketing and promoting the Great Birmingham Run;
· Contacting previous supporters of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign to encourage them to get involved;
· Arranging the distribution of posters in and around your community;
· Working with local media to promote the Great Birmingham Run;
· Contacting participants by telephone and email, promptly responding to enquiries and ordering fundraising materials as required;
· Updating your Volunteer Fundraising Manager on a regular basis.
What skills and attributes do I need to have?
· An interest in events management and volunteer led fundraising;
· Ability to respond proactively to new opportunities;
· Strong research skills and excellent interpersonal skills;
· Influencing and persuading skills would be of benefit for encouraging people to get involved;
· The ability to work well with staff and other volunteers as part of a team but also on your own initiative.
How much time do I need to commit?
We are looking for someone to commit to volunteering for a minimum of one day a week for four months. However, there may be opportunities for you to give more/less time.
What support will I be given?
A dedicated member of staff will guide and support you in your work plus you will receive supporting materials, a full induction to the charity and specific training, where appropriate, to help you get the most from your role.

Where will I be based?
You will be able to complete your tasks from home; however the role may also require you to travel to selected meetings and possibly attend the event on the 23rd October.
