Arvind Jain tragedy reveals shocking breakdown in Duchenne care

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign was shocked and saddened by news reports of the circumstances surrounding the death of Arvind Jain and extends our deepest sympathy to his family.

Reports of the events which led to Arvind's tragic death suggest that it could and should have been prevented had the care he was given been better managed and co-ordinated. The recently published guidelines setting out internationally approved standards of care for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy should be fully implemented and acted upon without delay.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign urges hospitals across the UK to learn from this tragic case and implement the Standards of Care which would help to prolong lives and prevent avoidable deaths for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
