Welsh Assembly Cross Party Group Review
The Cross Party Group (CPG) on Muscular Dystrophy in the Welsh Assembly, chaired by Dr Dai Lloyd AM, conducted a Review into Access to Specialist Neuromuscular Care in Wales.
The Review's launch session took place on 18 November 2009, and the CPG held oral evidence sessions until May 2010. The launch of the Review's Thomas Report took place on 14 July 2010.

The Building on the Foundations in Wales campaign launched in 2008 by the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign has highlighted distinct differences in the quality of service provision for people with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions across Wales.
Read and watch BBC News coverage of the Review.
The key issues which the Review covered included:
- what constitutes specialist multi-disciplinary care
- the experiences of people with muscular dystrophy
- disparities in service provision
- commissioning and funding
- role of care coordinators and social workers
- workforce planning
- provision of wheelchairs, equipment and orthotics to enable and promote independence and self determination
Following the publication of the Neurosciences Review in September 2008, access to respiratory services has been greatly reduced and other services have such little clinical support that they are in real danger of becoming unsustainable.
The CPG hopes people living with muscle disease in Wales, as well as clinicians and health professionals, will continue to submit evidence to the CPG as Assembly Members monitor the implementation of the recommendations in the Thomas Report.
