What we’ve achieved

Our warmest thanks go to all of our generous supporters for their commitment to our cause.

With your support we are able to:

  • provide free practical and emotional support
  • fund world-class research to find effective treatments and cures
  • campaign to raise awareness and bring about change
  • award grants towards the cost of specialist equipment

Thank you to all the trusts and foundations who have joined us in the fight against muscle disease.

Here are just a few examples of projects supported recently:

Big Lottery Fund

We have received significant funding for a number of years for pioneering work led by renowned scientists such as Professor Dame Kay Davies CBE. The most recent grant goes towards research led by Professor Volker Straub and Professor Dominic Wells into Duchenne muscular dystrophy

City Bridge Trust

Living with MD days for adults with neuromuscular conditions living in London will help adults manage their condition on a daily basis and plan for the future. We hope to develop a network of people who feel more confident in self-management techniques, are less dependent on their carers and can support their peers with similar conditions.

Cranbury Foundation

We are proud to have hosted a number of visits by the Foundation to meet research teams specialising in myotonic dystrophy, including Professor David Brook in Nottingham and Professor Darren Monckton in Glasgow. The Foundation is one of our key supporters and funding continues to make an important contribution to our fight against muscle disease.

Freemasons’ Grand Charity

The charity has supported our 'Together We're Stronger' project, aimed at helping people with muscle disease to take control of their own lives. The Adult Self-Management pack is part of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's ongoing commitment to provide free and expert information to all people affected by muscle disease.

Garfield Weston Foundation

Three family weekends will benefit 500 families across the UK - successful events have already been held at The Calvert Trust in the North East and the Wingate Centre in Cheshire. The weekends provide families affected by muscle disease with the opportunity to meet and interact with others in similar situations whilst enjoying much-needed respite.

v – the youth volunteering charity

Trailblazers is part of our national Youth Campaigning Network aimed at increasing the quality of life and opportunities for young people with muscle disease.  Volunteers campaign for improvements in health and social care services and develop information services in key areas.
