Q Trust highlights

The Q Trust plays an important role in the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's fight against muscle disease

Since it began in 2001, The Q Trust's fundraising has contributed to care and research work at the Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre - formerly at Hammersmith Hospital and now based at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. The funding has also supported the Oxford Muscle and Nerve Centre and its Regional Care Advisor, and financed pioneering research into mitochondrial muscle disease.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of The Q Trust.

In total The Q Trust has raised over £800,000 through a range of events; some highlights are listed below:

Special events

Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported us for the fourth Q Trust Quiz on Thursday 29 September. We raised over £26,000 and with more drinking than thinking taking place, I do hope you all had a fun evening!

Congratulations to Jonathan Lang and his team, 'Don't ask again', for winning the quiz. A special thank you to the fabulous Eddie Mair who was an extremely patient and long-suffering quiz master. Thank you also to Lea and Sandeman for supplying the wine on the evening.

A celebration dinner in memory of Q Trust founder Mark Reynolds was organised in 2006 and held at Cherwell Boathouse in Oxford, a favourite venue of his and his wife Jemima and their friends during their time at the University of Oxford.

In 2004, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Quentin's book, Great Chefs of France, The Q Trust committee held a Great Chefs of France Gourmet Dinner at The Savoy. Reproducing the recipes were some of today's best known and most celebrated chefs (including Raymond Blanc, Paul Gayler, Albert Roux, Brian Turner and John Williams). Other successes have included a dinner at Fortnum and Mason in 2003, a Perudo evening hosted by Tony Hawks, a celebrity preview of Chromophobia attended by the director, Martha Fiennes and The Oxford Treasure Hunt in 2007.

Sports events

Candida Crewe ran The London Marathon 2008 In 2008, Candida Crewe (Quentin's daughter) repeated the success of Malcolm Valentine's 2003 four-strong team and completed the London Marathon on behalf of The Q Trust. Malcolm Valentine is a veteran marathon runner and also took part in the Loch Ness Marathon in 2004.

Following David Douglas's 2002 example in 2006 one of Quentin's travelling companions, Hamish Goddard, took part in L'Etape du Tour - an Alpine stage of the Tour de France. However, not satisfied with this he immediately took part in the UK Ironman competition, swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running a marathon - all in a single day!

A special thank you to ten-year old Ollie Graffy who in 2004 sailed a single sail yacht on his own from Falmouth to Fowey on the South West coast to raise money for The Q Trust.

School events

The Beacon SchoolMark's two children, Charles and Emily, have taken their father's lead and encouraged their schools to support The Q Trust. For three years running The Beacon School in Amersham took on the Ultra Challenge; a team of boys ran, swam and cycled for almost a mile, totalling the equivalent of swimming the English Channel (22 miles), running a marathon (26 miles), and cycling an Olympic triathlon (25 miles).

Stowe School in Buckingham raised over £34,000 by holding a Battle of the Bands Competition, a sponsored walk and a dinner hosted by Barry McGuigan. Wycombe Abbey School also showed their support by holding fundraising collections and running a tuck shop throughout the school year.
