Advocacy and advice

The campaigns team is here to help anyone affected by muscle disease who is experiencing difficulties with social care, education, access to specialist health care services and employment rights issues.

We offer free advocacy, support and advice to anyone who is experiencing difficulties with their local services.

How do we help?

The Campaigns team fought to help A level student Michaela after she encountered discrimination when applying to go to university. Read Michaela's story. Patricia Lock, who the campaigns team supported to get a new wheelchair, said:

"I cannot begin to explain what a difference this is going to make to my whole life."

An eighteen year old young man with Duchenne muscular dystrophy is enjoying the use of a Neater Eater and a mobile arm support after his family, with the support of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, won a battle with the local council to secure funding for these vital pieces of equipment. With the Neater Eater and mobile arm support, he will be able to eat independently and help him fulfil his plans to go to college.

Bernie Gamble, School Welfare Officer who contacted the campaigns team said:

"I contacted the campaigns team on behalf of a young man at school with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. His family were evicted from their home and placed in totally unsuitable local authority housing. With the help of the campaigns team, we were able to get him moved into a more suitable property"
