Becoming an adult - Transition for young men with Duchenne muscular dystrophy
This report summarises a study into transition to adulthood for young men with Duchenne by conducted by David Abbott and Professor John Carpenter at the University of Bristol.
This report focuses on the transition from childhood to adulthood for young men with Duchenne - how it affects their families and the key professionals who support them. It explores the social and psychological aspects of this major life stage and the transition from one set of services to another.
It challenges service providers in the NHS, social services and education to act upon its findings and help young adults with muscle disease to expect the same high quality services as are increasingly being received by children with muscle disease.
