Specialist health care

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign plays an active role in campaigning for improvements to the provision of specialist health care for everyone with  muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions.

Find support in your local area

There are more than 30 regional care advisors in post throughout the country who provide emotional and practical support for people with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions, and their carers and families. With backgrounds in nursing, hydrotherapy, social care, physiotherapy or occupational therapy, care advisors work with statutory service providers, education authorities and other professionals to advise, support and best meet the needs of people affected by muscle-wasting conditions.

Muscle centres

The charity also helped establish, develop and continues to fund three specialist Muscle and Nerve Centres (in London, Oxford and Newcastle) that provide a multi-disciplinary approach to the management and support of those affected by muscular dystrophy and other related conditions, offering clinics for more than 3,600 people each year; and training for clinicians, clinical trial coordinators and clinical research fellowships.
