Early support pack for families

This is a pack produced by Department for Education and Skills in partnership with Department of Health,designed to help families with a child with special needs. Print copies are available free of charge to parents or carers with a baby or toddler. The pack contains two files.

A Family file – designed to help families manage multiple contacts and co-ordinate any support being provided for their child.

A series of Background information booklets that explain to parents how services work and how to get help.

Education

Most children with neuromuscular conditions can be fully included at their local mainstream school enabling them to reach their full potential. Getting schooling right is a rewarding experience for all involved and will greatly enrich any school and community.



Employment and training

The Government ‘Access to Work’ Scheme provides advice and practical support to enable people with disabilities to work, including personal care and travel to work costs, if required.

This website features a section on equipment for daily living, where you can also read about second-hand equipment, funding and direct payment for equipment.
