Community fundraiser recognised for achievements

Safi Rehman, who has worked for HSBC for 14 years, has been praised by the international bank for her work in the community fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

She became involved with the charity when her nephew, Auzair, was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of four. At the time the charity had not formed any local fundraising groups in her region so she decided to from a fundraising team to raise awareness as well as funds.

One of the most successful fund raising events was an Indian banquet. The people who attended the event were treated to an evening of authentic Indian cuisine, traditional entertainment, a prize raffle, a very reasonable bar, and some dancing.

Other fundraising activities have included coffee mornings, with Costa kindly donating the coffee for free, golf days, and marathon running.  There were 10 runners in the recent Bristol half marathon raising money for the charity.

Safi is passionate about the charity and feels that it is important to fundraise so that we can continue to fund breakthrough research. She says:

"When we formed in august 2010 our target was to raise £10,000 each year for three years. In the months that we have been formed we have already raised £23,000, which has exceeded our expectations. As a result we have now revised our target to £100,000 over a five year period. We know we are doing everything we possibly can to raise the funds rather than just sitting down and doing nothing. We know that we are doing our best."

Show your support to Safi and the Bristol and Bath Fundraising team by joining their Facebook group. The team always welcome new members or simply just pass on a message of encouragement to them for all their hard work and continued drive to raise even more money for the charity. You can also contact your local fundraising team to find out how you can get involved in fundraising.
