Bollywood strikes the World Cup

A teenager with muscular dystrophy has inspired her father to write an England World Cup Song with a difference to raise money for charity.

Anjali Solanki, 14, from Northolt in Middlesex, came up with the idea when her father, Jay Kumar, felt that England needed a unique World Cup song and tried to find a suitable tune. Anjali immediately thought of a well known Bollywood film song called "It’s the time to Disco" from a smash hit film called Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Jay loved his daughter’s suggestion and together they set about writing the lyrics for a World Cup version of the song, called "It’s the time for England." Anjali also suggested donating some of the proceeds from the song to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Anjali said, "The tune is really well known to lots of British Asians so I thought it would be fun for Dad to use it for his song. It is really catchy and I can imagine crowds of people singing along to it to cheer on the England team."

The lyrics of "It’s the time for England" is a rousing cry for football fans everywhere and positively declares that 2006 will be a victorious year for the England football team.

Jay, a Business Information Analyst at British Airways as well as a professional Bollywood dance choreographer said, "Anjali has been instrumental in helping me to put this song together. She is such a positive and outgoing girl, who never lets her disability get in the way of living life to the full. She gave me the confidence to go for it and record this great track, which is a new sound for the mainstream British music industry. We think it will add a bit of spice to England’s World Cup Campaign and hopefully raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign at the same time."

The track has been recorded and features professional singers, including the amazing Melissa Bell, former lead singer of the 90’s band Soul II Soul.
