Generous employees from Prudential have raised a whopping £195,000 for the company’s charity of the year, the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
Employees in PruUK offices across the country and in shopping centres owned and managed by PRUPIM, Prudential’s property investment arm, raised the money to increase independence and maximise mobility of people living with muscle disease.

Prudential Cheque Presentation February 2007The money raised has funded 16 powered wheelchairs and provided 20 grants for other essential equipment such as electric beds and adapted computers – all vital to maintaining independence for people living with muscle disease. Prudential funding also supported the production and distribution of the charity’s new Wheelchair Guidelines. The guidelines are designed to educate local Wheelchair Services across the UK, helping to ensure that people with muscle disease receive the right wheelchair.

Paul Cornes, Director of Corporate Responsibility for PRUPIM said, “After we chose to support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign as our charity of the year everyone was really enthusiastic to fundraise as much as possible. I think we were all shocked to learn just how expensive these vital pieces of equipment are, so we are thrilled that we’ve been able to help so many people living with muscle disease.”

Ann Piper, Community Consultant at PruUK said, “PruUK employees really pulled together to raise these funds, taking part in all sorts of activities - dress up and dress down days, golf days, a photography competition, the Hadrian’s Wall Challenge. What we’ve achieved was really brought home to us when we met some of the people who received the wheelchairs. It was fantastic to hear what a difference it’s made to their lives.”

Drew Cullen, Director of Fundraising and Communications at the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign said, “It has been fantastic to work with Prudential who have been so enthusiastic in their support for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. For people living with muscle disease, maintaining independence is often only possible through specially designed and very expensive equipment. Prudential and its amazing staff have been incredibly supportive and raised so much for the charity. All those who took part deserve a huge thanks.”
