Scottish Conference
02 October 2007
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign’s Scottish conference took place on Saturday 22 September. The presence of several staff from the London Office helped to remind everyone that the Scottish membership is distinctive but very much part of the main organisation. Chief Executive Philip Butcher, Director of Policy, Robert Meadowcroft and Head of Campaigns, Nic Bungay were paying their second visit to Scotland within a week, and for some delegates this was also a second round, after the reception at the Scottish Parliament on 19 September.
Director of Research, Marita Pohlschmidt, gave a review of our research and contributed to the breakout session on new developments led by Dr Douglas Wilcox. Representatives of the Duchenne Family Support Group also made the trip north. The programme of speakers and breakout sessions were well received by the delegates.
The afternoon sessions were deliberately varied; sports activities with a national coach and international boccia players, looked after by Stephen McDonald (Chair of Scottish Council); new developments in the medical & research field, with Drs Douglas Wilcox and Cheryl Longman; independent living and campaigning, led by Nic Bungay; fundraising, chaired by Glenn Oakes, Fundraising Team Manager for the North.
It was a successful day enjoyed by all who attended. Look out for details of next year's conference.
