Borrowing a wheelchair, Sissinghurst, Sussex, 1992 © Lesley McIntyre The Time of her Life, a photographic biography of Lesley McIntyre’s daughter, Molly, who died of an undiagnosed form of muscle disease, will be on display throughout September at the Photofusion Gallery in London.

"Dying children are some of our greatest teachers"
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, (1926 – 2004)

Lesley McIntyre’s daughter, Molly, was born on 19 October 1984. Within the first few days of her life Lesley was told a biopsy had revealed that Molly had an abnormality in the formation of her muscles and that it was highly unlikely that she would survive more than a few months.

Although the prognosis was very pessimistic Molly did make it out of the hospital and in fact lived an inspiring life until she was 14 years old. Sadly she passed away on 8 February 1999. Molly’s condition was never properly diagnosed.

Lesley, comments, “What is hard to explain to those people who are so fearful of engaging with disability is the fun that we had in spite of the anxiety that I learnt to live with, day in, day out.”

Muscular Dystrophy Campaign staff supported both Molly and Lesley throughout Molly’s life and remain in contact with Lesley through the years after Molly's death. In 2004 Lesley, a photographer by profession, published a book called The Time of Her Life which is a compilation of Molly’s life in a photographic format. This photographic biography is currently on display at the Photofusion Gallery in London.

The exhibition runs from 31 August – 29 September 2007 at Photofusion 17a Electric Lane, London SW9 8LA.
Open: Tuesday to Saturday from 10am - 6pm. Entry to the exhibition is free.
