The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign strives to support communication and collaboration amongst top-level scientist and clinicians by organising and sponsoring workshops and conferences. Encouraging and nurturing young scientists early in their careers is also recognised as being vital for the future success of neuromuscular research.

These meetings give those involved in research the opportunity to share ideas and build relationships. This will ultimately improve the quality of research and speed up the translation of laboratory discoveries to the benefit of patients.

3rd Nuclear Envelope Disease and Chromatin Organisation UK Meeting

The 2008 meeting was held at King’s College, London, UK on 23 - 24 April 2008, to discuss the latest research on the degenerative diseases known as the 'laminopathies'. Here we report on current understandings of the faulty biology present in the muscles of people suffering from Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD).

London Myology Forum Report

The inaugural meeting of the London Myology Forum was hosted at King’s College London on Friday 2 May. It was the first in a regular series of meetings aimed at bring together clinical and basic scientists interested in muscle function and disease, to generate greater interactions between the two communities.

Muscle Cell Development Meeting Report

The beginning of July 2008 saw the very first British Muscle Cell Development meeting dedicated to provide PhD students and Post-doctoral researchers with a national forum to present their work and promote collaboration between researchers.

XXXVII Annual European Muscle Conference

This meeting, held in the wonderful setting of the, Harry Potter-associated Keble College, covered a broad-ranging mix of biologists investigating the basic biology of muscle function through to clinicians investigating muscle diseases and treatments for muscle diseases.

World Muscle Society Congress, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK 29 September - 2 October 2008

The World Muscle Society is an international society of scientists and clinicians for the promotion and dissemination of knowledge in the neuromuscular field for the benefit of patients. It was founded in 1995 and holds a yearly meeting to facilitate the exchange of information. The 13th Congress of the World Muscle Society continued the trend of expansion of this meeting in recent years. More than 550 muscle disease researchers attended the meeting in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, at the excellent Sage Centre and Hilton Hotel, Gateshead
