TREAT-NMD (Translational Research in Europe for the Assessment and Treatment of Neuromuscular Disease)
The TREAT-NMD network brings together 21 partner organisations in 11 European countries. Some of Europe’s leading clinicians and scientists have formed this ‘network of excellence’ – the first of its kind – which has been funded by the European Union.
The network’s fundamental goal is to address the fragmentation that is currently delaying clinical trials for neuromuscular conditions and preventing all patients receiving unified care. The network also includes patient organisations and industry partners who are already working on neuromuscular diseases.
TREAT-NMD will encourage experts in the field to work together to share good practice and to improve global standards of care. Muscular Dystrophy Campaign supports the TREAT-NMD project and employs and funds Elaine Scott, TREAT-NMD Implementation Manager for the UK.

SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY STANDARDS OF CARE FACTSHEETS PUBLISHED ON THE TREAT-NMD WEBSITE
A user-friendly summary of the international consensus, led by the International Coordinating Committee, which has been achieved on standards of care for patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), has been published on the TREAT-NMD website. The TREAT-NMD team responsible for standards of diagnosis and care has been working with the authors of the recently published SMA consensus statement to create useful summary factsheets based on the full published document.Receiving the best care can dramatically improve patients' quality of life and even prolong life expectancy. Gaining international consensus on the best way of caring for patients is one of TREAT-NMD's key aims, and in the coming weeks and months we are expecting further developments for other diseases too.
